Fury suffer heartbreaking home defeat, fall to 0-5 record
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus Fury suffered a 3-2 defeat against the Grand Rapids Rise on Sunday afternoon, concluding their three-game homestand.
After a slow start on Friday, the Fury showed improved early aggression, overcoming an early 2-0 deficit in the first set. They regained control, extending their lead to six points, a margin that proved insurmountable for the Rise.
Grand Rapids gained an early advantage in the second set but failed to establish a significant lead. Columbus capitalized, tying the score at 11-11 and then surging ahead to secure the set and a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.
The Rise mounted a comeback in the third set, stringing together scoring runs to take a 17-14 lead. They maintained their advantage, capturing the set 25-19. The Rise carried this momentum into the fourth set, forcing a decisive fifth set.
Grand Rapids continued their strong play in the fifth set, ultimately securing a crucial road victory.
The loss drops Columbus to 0-5 on the season as the Fury hit the road to battle Omaha on Friday night. First serve is scheduled for 8 PM.
